About SUP AK

Hi, I’m Amanda.  If you’re reading this then you’ve made it to my blog; hopefully that means you’re interested in stand up paddleboarding (SUP) as most of my blog posts will be about SUP or about fitness and wellbeing in general.

One of my favourite things to do is paddleboarding. I started SUP two years ago after trying it on holiday in Lanzarote.  I had previously seen SUP on Hawaii 5-0 and jumped at the chance to try it on holiday.  When I landed back in London, I Googled SUP not expecting to find anything- London isn’t exactly known for its watersports.  I was really surprised to find that there’s several places to learn and hire paddleboards from in London and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I originally started this blog as a way to motivate myself to get fit and healthy but found that paddleboarding motivates me more than blogging.  I decided to restart the blog last year to document my SUP adventures and hope it will encourage more people to try paddleboarding.

Last year, after deciding I needed a new challenge, I was lucky enough to get sponsored by Naish and ProLimit to enter the UK SUP racing series.  I raced on a Naish one (n1sco) board which I am now the proud owner of.  Racing was a brilliant experience and even though I came last in most races, I was awarded the prize of ‘most improved n1sco female paddler’ for the season.

This year I am aiming to improve on all of my race times from last year, and maybe even retain the trophy.  I have joined the gym and will be trying to incorporate paddleboard training in to my weekly routine.

To help with my training, I completed the Whole30 eating plan in January and am trying out a paleo diet going forwards.  The aim is to eat more vegetables and to not eat processed sugary foods.

In addition to racing, this year I will also be helping out as part of the UK SUP team; organising UK SUP races, promoting them, helping at races etc.  I am really looking forward to volunteering and giving back to the sport.

I hope you will have a look at my blog and enjoy reading it.  I’m happy to answer questions and listen to feedback so drop me a message in the comments box below.
